REFEREES NEEDED

The club is in significant need of responsible youth and adults to become referees. At present, we only have (4) certified referees to handle all of our home games. This simply is not enough when you consider the energy and mental focus necessary to doing a great job enforcing the rules properly and keeping players safe.

Certified referees are required for all Travel level games. Three are needed for each game and without at least one certified referee to center the game, it cannot be played.  There is an extreme shortage of referees across the country for soccer and all youth sports.  We need responsible, invested youth and adults to ensure we have referees for our matches and ensuing years.

We are seeking youth at least 12 years of age and adults.  We are looking for responsible, mature youths with supportive parents to become referees. Refereeing does require some commitment and certain character traits so it is not for everyone. Consider the type of person you are and whether you are up for a new opportunity.

Interested individuals will; receive mentoring by the club referee assignor (Craig), be required to read/learn the rules and practice their skills to develop confidence and mastery. Additionally, adults/youth 14 or older if seeking certification, will be required to complete an online certification course, obtain clearances, participate in an in-person certification session and Safe Sport training.

Why get involved? Becoming a referee offers many valuable benefits in addition to the money you can earn.  But, let’s talk about money. Earning potential can continue to grow once you are certified and if you desire to progress to officiating higher level matches. For our club’s games last season, some of our 17-year-old certified referees made as much as $100 for a little over 2 hours of work! There is likely not another job available to you right now with that rate of hourly pay and it can go up.

Additional benefits are numerous; developing a deeper understanding of rules and what fouls will be called in games, develop the ability to quickly think critically, learn how to work with groups of people, meet new people, begin building a resume that shows you are a leader and develop skills/abilities that you will have for life.

Parents, IMAGINE, becoming a referee, getting certified with your child and officiate games together. A great way to bond and give back to the game that has given you so much.

If you think you or your child has what it takes to become a referee please email [email protected] or email me directly and we will provide more details and answer your questions. Information can also be found our website under the Referee tab. See attached flyer.

UNITED by the game,

Craig
