Become a Referee

Becoming a referee is not difficult but it does require a few steps to accomplish which are outlined below.

For a limited time, the club is currently covering ALL COSTS for new referees to become certified
to encourage growth of the club's referee pool. This is a HUGE SAVINGS of almost $200!!

New referee training consists of both online and an in person on field training session with a State Certified Instructor. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE ONLINE CERTIFICATION COURSE BEFORE you can register for the on field training session. There is a continuously updated list of classes for new referee certifications and re-certifications maintained on the PA West website under the tab, "Become a Referee".

ALL Instructions for the process can be found on the PA West SITE.

Here is the overview of the process:
  1. Obtain the required background checks and CLEARANCES.
    1. FBI Criminal Background Check (13-17 can complete notarized affidavit)
    2. PA State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH)
    3. PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  2. Register to take the Certification Course.
  3. Complete the Referee Certification Program
    • Online course and exam
    • Attend in person on field training session
  4. Complete Safe-Sport Training (if 18 or older)
Once you have received the required clearances and certifications, inform the KO United Referee Assignor. PA West will mail you your official badge shortly after completing all requirements. You MUST have your official badge to officiate games.
